I have an ASUS A53 laptop that I use for my Exede internet installs. Information technology rides in my truck every mean solar day, and I think the vibration/movement is taking a toll on the HDD. I accept an Intel SSD coming tomorrow, and I'm hearing all different opinions on how to deal with the OS.

I was considering cloning the HDD to the SSD, but equally you already know, a clean install is ameliorate, and volition rid my reckoner of the crap that ASUS installs, that I don't need. I was also told that the hidden recovery partition won't clone over, which wouldn't bother me, only seems like it would cause problems, but non sure.

All that existence said, my agreement is....since I have Windows vii Dwelling Premium 64 bit on the laptop now, and as long as I'm non changing my motherboard, that I can but download the Windows 7 Home Premium 64 scrap ISO, install it on the new SSD, and I can use the product cardinal that is on my COA sticker.

One potential problem I run across is...the sticker says Windows 7 Home Premium OA. I called Microsoft, and the guy told me that the OA simply means that the OS was preloaded at the factory. He also said, for what I want to do, I need a Windows 7 Home Premium OEM ISO, in lodge to utilize my production primal.

Is he right? If and then, I can't discover a Win 7 Dwelling house Premium OEM ISO anywhere. I'm tempted to merely clone it, only I don't see a reason why I can't practise a fresh install, and employ the same product key.

Any advice/input profoundly appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

Since yous're re-installing on the same motherboard the central should be fine. As to the disk image, there'southward no divergence between OEM and Retail Windows software; the difference is entirely in the policy carried by the central.

I have the ISO already, my concern is that the version on my laptop says Windows 7 Dwelling Premium OA, and I think the OA simply means information technology's an OEM version, installed at the factory, and it'southward tied to the motherboard, in which case, an ISO that is Windows vii Domicile Premium(without any OA) should be fine, but I'chiliad not sure. The fact that is says "OA" subsequently the description is my business, in a nutshell.

OEM versions of Windows seven are identical to Full License Retail versions except for the post-obit:

- OEM versions do non offer whatever free Microsoft direct support from Microsoft back up personnel

- OEM licenses are tied to the very showtime computer you lot install and activate it on

- OEM versions permit all hardware upgrades except for an upgrade to a unlike model motherboard

- OEM versions cannot exist used to straight upgrade from an older Windows operating arrangement

OEM vs. Retail

OEM Windows vii comes preinstalled on computers. This is the cheapest way to buy windows. Large PC manufacturers like Dell, HP etc. (collectively called royalty OEMs) install windows on millions of such PCs. The main characteristics of such systems are:

The license agreement and back up agreement is between you and the PC maker, not MS.

Activation by the stop user is not required. Windows is preactivated at the manufactory by the OEM using images and standard SLP keys.

Your copy of windows is locked to that PC. The license is non transferable.

OEM system builder is what y'all get when yous buy from say Newegg or from a local "white box" vendor. It also has the characteristics of Royalty OEM windows. Although it is possible for an individual to buy a Arrangement Architect copy, the license requires that the software be installed using the OPK (OEM preinstall kit) and so resold.

Retail version is what y'all buy from a retailer like Amazon or Bestbuy. Its a total cost version that comes packaged in a retail box with a retail product key. It has to exist activated online via MS servers using the primal on the box, information technology is non tied to the PC it was outset installed on, though information technology tin simply exist used on a single calculator at a time. And, MS directly provides the support for it. It is also more expensive than OEM copies.

Equally far as functionality is concerned, theres no deviation between whatsoever of the versions in a higher place, given any specific edition (i.e. between OEM pro and retail pro, or between OEM ultimate and retail ultimate).

Yeah...no biggie.

In that location are other ways, if I had to resort to them, but that doesn't appear to be the example.
